One of the best parts of being a Connecticut-based family, maternity, and portrait Photographer is discovering beautiful photography locations to share with my clients. Connecticut’s scenic gems offer a variety of backdrops, from vibrant gardens to serene coastal views, and soft flattering light. Some locations require hourly parking fees, some are free for Connecticut residents and others are free entrance! Here are 5 of my favorite locations for photoshoots.
1. Walnut Beach



Walnut Beach in Milford, Connecticut is a coastal gem. It offers golden hour magic, serene waves, and wide open skies that kiss the Long Island Sound. The beach’s boardwalk and pier are perfect backdrops for most photography sessions.
Why It’s Perfect: The sand is soft, brown, and free of debris making going barefoot enjoyable.
Parking: Parking is free for Milford residents with a beach sticker. For others, street parking is available at $5 per hour, payable via kiosks or the ParkMobile app.

2. Boothe Memorial Park



Boothe Memorial Park offers a beautiful vibrant rose garden, a stunning white clock tower, serene walking paths, and plenty of open shade for just about any photography session. Encompassing 32 acres, Boothe Memorial Park is located in Stratford, CT right off the Merrit Parkway.
Why It’s Perfect: The park is rarely crowded, so sessions here feel peaceful and private. The roses bloom from early spring to late fall, offering a pop of color even as the seasons change.
Parking: Parking is free, and there’s a small lot on-site. It’s conveniently located right off the Merritt Parkway, making it easily accessible.

3. Elizabeth Park Rose Garden



If you love floral backdrops, Elizabeth Park Rose Garden in West Hartford, Connecticut is pure magic! With over 15,000 rose bushes, wide arches draped in greenery and blooms, and serene walking paths, this 102-acre park is a dreamy spot for romantic or family photoshoots.
Why It’s Perfect:The signature rose-covered arches and ornate greenhouses offer a touch of romance and elegance. The peak season is between May and late July when the roses are at their most vibrant.
Parking: The park is free to the public, with several parking lots available. Because of its popularity, crowds can be a factor, especially on weekends.

4. Waveny Park



Located in New Canaan, Connecticut on 300 acres, Waveny Park offers a romantic and elegant touch. The Waveny House and the well-manicured gardens elevate any photography session. A popular park so weekends are typically crowded and weekdays are usually better fitted for photography sessions.
Why it’s Perfect: Waveny House and manicured gardens add a romantic and timeless feel to any photoshoot.
Parking: The park is free and open to the public with plenty of parking.

5. Harkness Memorial State Park



If you’re looking for a versatile location that offers coastal charm and historic elegance then look no further! Harkness Memorial State Park located in Waterford, Connecticut is a dreamy location for any photography session. Mansion, check. Gardens, how about three?
Why it’s Perfect: It’s a perfect mix of natural and architectural beauty making it a top pick for all kinds of sessions.
Parking: Free is free for Connecticut residents. Day passes are available for purchase for non-residents at the kiosk.
